Elements
What is the smallest particle of a substance that maintains the integrity of the whole? Art, like science, cannot always explain the “why” but can demonstrate the “how”.
The body of work titled Elements addresses the simplest elements of form. In this series, Cobie Russell draws structures and color from the natural world. The series Elements is inspired, in part, by some of the playful energies of the mathematics of Ramanujan and the physics of Bernoulli.
The large paintings are a tangible result of the artist’s continuing curiosity about what makes things what they are.
