Skyscape

The northern region of New Mexico has a life and reputation of its own. Cobie Russell’s Skyscapes are part of the high desert where the dry bed of the Rio Grande meets distant mountain ranges. The vast open Land of Enchantment allows views of storms and cloud patterns stretching hundreds of miles away. Russell’s Skyscapes imagine that massive cloud formations are flowers—enormous blooming petals of white and gray drifting across the sky above the desert. These colossal clouds make the quiet, sparse landscape below appear calm and still, as if Mother Earth is watching a garden unfold above.
